Tips for Selecting a Slide Scanning Service
Identify Your Goals - Don't compromise on Quality
You have made the decision to scan your slides. Now, you need to decide whether or not to do it yourself or pay a professional scanning service. When evaluating whether or not to, most people come to the same basic conclusion: it takes a ton of time and energy to manually scan slides. It also requires an upfront investment of $1,000+ for a high end slide scanner.
Therefore, it makes the most sense to find a trustworthy slide scanning services company that provides ease of use, high quality, low prices, and great customer service.
Trust
Your slides are important so you should look for a slide scanning service that you trust. Take a look at the management team, the services provided, and the testimonials written by your service organization's customers. At ScanCafe, you will find one of the most experienced and professional management teams in this industry. In addition to slide scanning, ScanCafe offers a broad range of services including photo scanning, negative scanning, and photo restoration. To date, we have successfully scanned over 2,000,000 images.
Ease of Use
ScanCafe came up with a revolutionary idea to make the entire slide scanning process easier than ever. We allow the customer to review their processed scans online and delete up to 50% of the images that they do not want to keep. This reduces the upfront hassle of picking which individual slides to scan. Just consider how difficult it would be to look at each slide in the light to see if that is the slide you want to keep.
Quality
When it comes to slide scanning, one of the most critical
aspects of quality is the type of slide scanner used as well as the scanning
resolution and post-scan services. At ScanCafe, we use top of the line
Nikon 5000 CoolScan and Nikon 9000 CoolScan scanners. We also scan slides
at 3000 dpi which is the highest quality scan for you. You can get 4000+
dpi scans, but we believe 4000+ dpi resolution is actually too high because
you will start to see the grain in the image. If you have a moment, view
some of our quality comparisons.
Beyond 3000 dpi quality, ScanCafe is very unique because of the free
services provided for each slide scan including color correction,
red eye removal, image cropping, and dust/scratch removal. In particular,
Kodak Digital ICE is used to remove dust and scratches. Most importantly,
ScanCafe's services are very unique because we conduct 3-4 minutes of
color correcting, removing red eye, and cropping images – all at the price
of 29 cents per slide. You will not find this level of free service anywhere
else.
Slide Scan Types
A professional slide scanning service provider like ScanCafe will be able to scan 35mm slides and medium format slides along with 126 and 127 slides.
Price
One of the major reasons ScanCafe was founded was our belief that the average prices for slide scanning were just too high. Knowing that many customers have thousands of slides to scan, ScanCafe can save you hundreds of dollars for 3000 dpi slide scans. These low prices are unmatched in the industry.
Customer Service
First-class organizations pride themselves on their ability to build a solid relationship with their customers. At ScanCafe, we have made it a priority to provide a helpful hand for all of our customers. Our outstanding customer support team, based in California, will quickly respond to all of your questions and calls. Our testimonials highlight our excellent customer support services. You can always send you questions or comments to admin@scancafe.com or call us at 866-745-0392.
